How Satellite TV Works
If you've got satellite TV or are thinking of getting it, you may be wondering how it works. For starters, this type of television uses satellites that hover in space around the Earth at a distance of approximately 22,000 miles away. These satellites in space receive broadcast signals from Earth. Then, they are used to transmit these signals to the satellite dishes of users. When this type of TV was first created, the satellite dishes used were large and bulky. Things changed, however, thanks to DBS, or direct broadcast satellite providers such as Dish Network and DirecTV.
These DBS providers invented a new way for the public to enjoy this type of television. Basically, these companies purchase satellite programming wholesale and resell it to the consumer. They also were able to create a smaller, more compact dish that made it easier for more people to enjoy satellite TV. One of the best features of working with DBS providers are the packaging options. Consumers could, and still can, choose to get only the channels they're interested in. For example, there are movie channel packages, sports packages, family packages, and more.
When you sign up for satellite television, you get not only a dish but a receiver as well. The receiver works to translate the signal so that it can be viewed on your TV. But that's not all it can do! With your receiver, you can see television listings on a guide channel, order Pay-Per-View television and more. Many receivers today have DVR capabilities. DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder and is a whole new way to enjoy television.
If your satellite receiver has DVR, you'll have the ability to pause and rewind live television. This means you'll never miss a moment of your favorite show! You can schedule programs to be recorded automatically, store them, and play them back at a later time. With DVR, more than one program can be recorded at a time, even if the television is off or on a different channel. While it sounds like this capability would cost a great deal more, it's quite affordable to have a DVR satellite receiver.
Satellite television is truly a technological wonder, and one that's come a long way in a short period of time. With all the features and benefits of this advanced broadcasting method, it's no wonder so many people are choosing satellite TV for their programming needs.
